Life in Dubai...5 Months Later

It's been a long while since I posted anything to my blog...that seems to be the trend for me...My last post was almost 5 months ago...

Life has been pretty busy since I moved to Dubai, but in a good way...After 5 months in a new city, I finally feel somewhat settled.

The first two months were extremely hectic with me trying to settle into my new job, understand the processes, getting to know the people I work with and on top of that, trying to find an apartment to live.

Finding an apartment was not as easy as I imagined it would be...My company provided accommodation for my first month in the country, but after that month was over I had to find another place to stay. I couldn't move into an apartment right away, as I had to wait until my residency permit was issued; so the best option was to stay at a hotel. So after the first month was over, I moved to a hotel opposite the one I was staying at for another month.

The search for an apartment was not an easy task...I felt like I was starring in an episode of House Hunters...I saw about 10 or so apartments...and I liked one apartment. Unfortunately, I could not book the apartment as I didn't have enough cash. My company had paid me in a cheque because I didn't have my residency permit to open a bank account at the time.

By the time I got my permit, and had my bank account set up, the apartment was already rented out.

My last house hunting trip was a complete nightmare...the realtor who was supposed to show me the apartments somehow fell ill, and instead of calling to apologize, she sent the worst realtor I have ever met. It was probably her first day on the job...1) she didn't know where the apartment was located 2) she took me to a disgustingly furnished apartment with water/humidity damage when I specifically asked to have an unfurnished apartment 3) she was planning to show me apartments way above my budget...

I was frustrated after that trip because my time at the hotel was running out...I went for a walk and found myself entering a Starbucks in Jumeirah Beach Residences....a beautiful and lively residential and touristic area on the beach. I ordered a coffee and sat browsing for apartments.
I found a couple I liked and called the first apartment...I got an automated message that the realtors office was closed for the weekend. I called the realtor of the second apartment...and to my surprise, the apartment was available, it was in the same building of the Starbucks I was sitting in and the realtor was available to show me the place that minute..

So I grabbed my drink and went up the stairs...

The apartment was beautiful...very spacious....unfurnished...clean...and most importantly it had an amazing view.... view of Dubai Marina from the living room and the guest bedroom, and it had view of the beach and The Palm from my bedroom. I told the realtor that I needed a couple of days to think about it...however, by night time, I had already decided on it and texted the realtor.

On December 31st, I booked my apartment and immediately started shopping for furniture and appliances (the apartment didn't have any white goods).

I've been living in my beach apartment for almost 3 months now...it's 95% complete...I still need to add a few decorative pieces.

Work has been pretty busy...I expected this when I moved to Dubai...at some point I was working between 14 to 15 hours a day...right now it's back to being 9 or 10 hours a day...
I am enjoying my new job...i'm working on a couple of interesting projects and I am learning a lot of new things. It's a challenge, but it's what I've been looking for.

Life in Dubai is amazing! There are so many things happening every week...new restaurants opening, new clubs, celebrity DJs and famous celebrities performing at various venues around town.

There's one music festival I am looking forward to attending...Blended Music Festival headlined by my favorite, favorite, favorite band of all times...the Backstreet Boys! This will be a dream come true...I never imagined I will get the chance to see BSB perform live in concert...and on their 25th anniversary nonetheless! The concert is taking place on April 20th...the same day BSB officially became a band 25 years ago :) :)

Joining Backstreet Boys will be Melanie C from Spice Girls (Sporty Spice) and Lemar...this will be an amazing night...

Despite the liveliness of Dubai...I always need time to relax and recharge...so Netflix is my lovely companion. It keeps me entertained when I need to relax...
I've been rewatching The Vampire Diaries (for the 3rd or 4th time....I can never get enough of it) and finished the first season of Riverdale, Alexa & Katie, and three seasons of Fuller House. I'm also watching Designated Survivor, Dynasty, Grace & Frankie and Mad Men.

Any other recommendations?

Anyway, that's enough updates from me...I'll try to write more frequently

Goodnight from Dubai!
