For the past five years, I have been trying so hard to move to Dubai, and for some unknown reasons, it never worked out....until now :)
I always believed that things happen for a reason, and everything will work out no matter how much time it takes. You only have to believe that it will work out!
On November 16th, I packed my bags and relocated to the gorgeous city of Dubai. I'm still in the process of settling into my new life, trying to figure out my next steps. It is a very exciting adventure for me...everything is new...new city, new job, new life, new people...
My first day in the country was very interesting...I arrived in the afternoon and after collecting my luggage, I took a taxi to the cargo center to pick up the rest of my belongings. Those who know me, know how much stuff I have...so traveling with one suitcase was not even an option. I shipped 4 suitcases (containing only 1/6th of my closet) via cargo....anyway, the taxi dropped me off at the wrong location apparently and left (there are 2 different cargo centers)
I was dropped at a place filled with shipping warehouses, with not a cab in sight. So there I was, dragging a huge heavy suitcase, a small carry-on and my laptop bag around the warehouses, trying to get to the main road to find a cab to take me to the correct place.
Some cars driving right by me were concerned about me and have stopped to ask if I was okay or if I needed help. I wonder what I must have looked like...tired, homesick already, dragging an extremely heavy suitcase in one hand and and carry-on in the other trying to get to the correct cargo place...which was a 10-15 minute drive by car...
I walked for at least half an hour to an hour, almost crying on the way without any hope of finding a taxi. And to make matters worse, I didn't have an internet connection to order an Uber.
But by some miracle, I approached a bus stop, and an empty taxi was driving by. I hailed the taxi and was finally on my way to the correct cargo center. Long story short and 4 hours later I was checking into my one bedroom apartment at the hotel the company has chosen for me.
First week at work was an experience by itself. I still feel lost and trying to figure out my job exactly, but it is expected during the first week or so.
Today I had to go do a medical check as part of the residency permit requirement. The test is basically taking a blood sample and an x-ray. I am deathly afraid of needles, so I went as early as possible to the medical center (I was the 3rd person in line) to get it over with. I told the nurse about my fear of needles, and she was very sweet, trying to talk to me and distract me from what she was doing. Surprisingly, it worked! I didn't feel the needle go in and it was over before I knew it...but it hurt afterwards...
Anyway, stay tuned for more adventures of me settling into my new life in Dubai
Goodnight from this amazing city! :*
